Business Spotlight: Homestead New York

Homestead New York's ground floor office on Fulton Street welcomes walk-in clients

From office towers converted into residential developments to new construction projects for apartment buildings, downtown features an exciting -- and growing -- list of housing options. And the professional team of real estate agents at Homestead New York, located in the heart of the Financial District, stands ready to help newcomers find homes in the neighborhood.

Opened last September, Homestead New York is one of the few real estate agencies in the area with a ground floor office that easily welcomes walk-in clients. Homestead New York's team of more than 40 licensed agents specializes in rentals in the Financial District and Battery Park City and has a growing sales department. So far, they have placed nearly 700 people in newly opened residential developments or existing apartment buildings that had vacancies to be filled. They work with a diversified clientele of college students and recent graduates, young professionals, and families.

"This is the hottest neighborhood for real estate," says Daniel Shamooil, who founded Homestead New York, Inc. with his partner Eli Adahan. "The area has the most potential for businesses and for residences. And you get to experience the whole redevelopment."

Poised for growth, the area also still boasts good deals, which provides an added incentive for prospective downtown residents, Shamooil says. Compared to prime locations in Manhattan, he says, "You get 20 percent more space for 20 percent less money."

Some people are wary of working with real estate agents who will waste their time showing them unsuitable apartments, and Shamooil understands their concern. "There is a 99 percent failure rate in this business," he says. "But we are trying to hire that 1 percent of agents that are top producers."

Homestead New York prides itself on it careful selection of agents, who work to save clients time by doing research in advance to find the right apartments to meet individual needs.

Already thriving downtown, Homestead New York is also looking to expand with a second office on the Upper East Side.
