In the new 2 Gold Street building, Rockrose Development has created 650 luxury rental apartments, neighborhood amenities, and a public plaza featuring the new sculpture "Two" by Gustavo Bonevardi, one of the creators of the "Tribute in Light" display commemorating September 11, 2001.
The first tenants moved into the 51-story tower in March 2005, and finishing touches were made in May of that year.
Already a highly residential neighborhood -- with nearly 7,500 total residents anticipated by 2005 -- the immediate area surrounding 2 Gold Street was once known as “Golden Hill,” named for the golden wheat originally planted there by 18th-century Dutch settlers. With a new streetscape, 23,000 square feet of new retail space, and an arts center currently being planned for Gold Street, Golden Hill is poised for an urban revival.
