Built in 1929, 63 Wall Street has been converted from the former Brown Brothers Harriman headquarters into a residential development called the Crest. The 36-story building, now home to 476 rental units, maintains its neo-classical exterior but boasts a luxurious, contemporary style throughout its interior.
Developer RBNB Wall Street Owner, LLC, an entity controlled by Nathan Berman and Yaron Bruckner, received $132,500,000 in tax-exempt Liberty Bonds from the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to cover the costs of acquisition, renovation, and conversion of the office building. RBNB also acquired 67 Wall Street and 20 Exchange Place and was able to convert those buildings as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
How long did this project take?
A:
Construction began in summer 2003 and was completed in summer 2005.
Q:
How is the new building different from the original?
A:
The exterior of the original building, built in 1929, remains the same. However, new windows were installed throughout. Inside, the rows of bank-teller windows that once lined the second floor have been removed, and the space has been transformed into a grand lounge for residents. Mailboxes and a concierge desk have replaced what before were elevator banks, and the fixtures and wood paneling now have a post-modern look. Designers, though, took pains to preserve the terra-cotta floors, the marble finishes, and the building’s original pillars.

Q:
Where did the name, the Crest, come from?
A:
It was inspired by a decorative/architectural element found in the building’s original entrance.
Q:
Where did the former tenants of 63 Wall Street go?
A:
The investment bank firm, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., remained downtown but relocated to 140 Broadway.
