99 Washington Street reached the 8th floor in June 2012
At the corner of Washington and Rector Streets, a new 50-story, 400-room Holiday Inn is under construction since summer 2011. Formerly the site of a parking garage, 99 Washington Street is one of several new high-rise developments in the area south of the World Trade Center.
Architect Gene Kaufman designed the tower, while Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman & Associates designed the building's facade -- which uses metal panels to attract and reflect light, and brighten the street-level pedestrian experience. The building's base will blend in with the surrounding streetscape, while the upper floors will feature graduated setbacks, and offer unique views of upper Manhattan, the Hudson River, and the Statue of the Liberty.
Contractor Cava Construction is building the new tower, which is expected to open in early 2014. Upon completion, it will be the tallest Holiday Inn hotel in the world.
