In its mission to provide state-of-the-art fiber optics to the downtown community, Verizon is now making improvements to its underground infrastructure network. To carry out the upgrades, Verizon's subsidiary, Empire City Subway (ECS), and its contractors are installing new ducts and replacing old ones in several locations in and around the Financial District.

Verizon’s fiber-optic network requires continuous improvements to keep up with the latest technology and customer demand. Installing new ducts lets Verizon make necessary improvements to its telecommunications network, along with other vital utilities and cables.
