Daniel F. McCormack
First Deputy Executive Director

Daniel F. McCormack is the first deputy executive director of the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center (LMCCC). Created by joint Executive Orders from Governor George Pataki and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the LMCCC is responsible for the coordination of all construction activity in the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan, from Canal Street to the Battery from river to river.

Mr. McCormack is responsible for the administration and operations of LMCCC, including start up, communications, finance, technology, procurement, grant management, human resource, and diversity/equal employment opportunity issues.

Prior to joining the Command Center, Mr. McCormack was a founding partner of the Regan McCormack Group (RMG), a privately held public relations, media, and government affairs consulting firm in New York City.

Mr. McCormack has had a diverse career in national, state, and local public policy and public affairs, having served as senior director of communications for the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA), where he was the official spokesman responsible for all internal and external communications for the 930 public servants of the SCA. The SCA builds new public schools and manages the repair and renovation of capital projects in New York City’s 1,200 public school buildings for the largest public education system in the nation, serving 1.1 million students.

Prior to joining the SCA, Mr. McCormack was the senior vice president and chief of staff for the American Trucking Associations (ATA). He oversaw all aspects of ATA staff activities and operations, including issues management, legislative and regulatory affairs, member relations, special functions, and development of new initiatives.

The ATA Federation includes more than 40,000 members -- trucking companies of all sizes and types and industry suppliers. Together with its affiliated organizations -- 50 state trucking associations, 14 national conferences for specialized industry segments, and seven technical councils -- ATA is the principal voice speaking for more than 9 million Americans who earn their living in the trucking industry.

Before becoming chief of staff, Mr. McCormack was vice president of federation relations, serving as liaison between ATA’s national headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, and its affiliated state trucking associations and national conferences.

Prior, Mr. McCormack was the president of the New York State Motor Truck Association (NYSMTA), representing more than 850 member firms in the New York trucking industry. During his tenure, he won several major legislative victories for the industry including the elimination of New York State’s Gross Receipts Tax, Reduction in Petroleum Business Taxes, Workers Compensation Reform Legislation, and prevented a New York Thruway Toll Increase.

From 1990 to 1995, Mr. McCormack served as executive director of The Crisis Program (TCP), a non-profit organization of the Associated General Contractors, Inc., dedicated to raising public awareness of road and bridge infrastructure needs. Under his direction, TCP’s campaigns yielded more than 750 print and broadcast news stories, leading to the historic creation of New York State’s first Dedicated Transportation Trust Fund and establishing TCP as one of the state’s foremost resources on transportation. Mr. McCormack’s efforts have been recognized with six national awards for excellence in public relations, including the prestigious “Silver Anvil” award from the Public Relations Society of America and the CIT Group’s nationally renowned “Rebuilding America” award, and have been published as a case study by the American University in Washington, DC.

From 1983 to 1990, he served as vice president of administration and operations for the Battery Park City Authority, where he directed all operations of the 92-acre, $4 billion commercial and residential development in Lower Manhattan. Before that, Mr. McCormack served as confidential assistant to New York Governor Hugh L. Carey from 1979 to 1983.

Mr. McCormack holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Saint Francis College. Mr. McCormack is on the Board of Directors of the Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP).
