Deborah Wetzel is Director of Communications for the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center. She serves as the LMCCC spokesperson to the media and is responsible for media coverage, press conferences, relationship building with reporters, crisis management and media information. Before coming to the LMCCC, Ms. Wetzel was Press Secretary for the Empire State Development Corporation under Chairman Charles Gargano. While there, she worked on media coverage about the Jets Stadium, Moynihan Station, Brooklyn Bridge Park, the expansion of the Javits Convention Center and economic development issues throughout NYS. Previous to that position, Ms. Wetzel was Manager of the Communications office at the NYC School Construction Authority. Before moving into the private sector, Ms. Wetzel was the Morning News Anchor on WCBS FM for 14 years. During her media career, she was a freelance writer for the Long Island Section of the NY Times, Newsday and the United Nations. She worked as a freelance reporter for News 12 Long Island and New Jersey. Ms. Wetzel has worked as an Adjunct Professor, teaching radio broadcasting, news writing and public speaking at New York University, Molloy College, The New School and the New York Institute of Technology. She is a past President of the New York Press Club and now serves as a Trustee of the New York Press Club and Chair of the Events Committee. Ms. Wetzel is also a member of the Student Affairs Committee of New York Women in Communication. Wetzel holds a BA degree in Communication Arts and Business from Molloy College. She does volunteer work for the New York League of Conservation Voters and the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation.
