The site is scheduled to be turned over in Febuary 2011
|
The last remaining structure damaged on September 11, 2001 is nearly gone. The former 40-story 130 Liberty Street tower this week stands at just three floors above grade. Crews are making quick work of final steel and concrete removal, which will bring the structure down to street level by January 15, 2011 (pending weather conditions).
The update was presented to Community Board 1 on Monday by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) project spokesperson Josh Rosenbloom. He explained that once the superstructure is removed, the foundation walls will remain to provide support for surrounding substructures, including the 1 subway tunnel which runs along Greenwich Street. Rosenbloom also said that air monitors will stay at least until full building deconstruction is complete in January.
LMDC contractor Bovis and other project managers are coordinating the site’s turnover to the Port Authority in February 2011. Once Port Authority crews take over the site, they will extend South Bathtub excavation eastward for construction of the World Trade Center Vehicular Security Center entry.
