213 Pearl Street to Come Down

No timeline for the deconstruction has yet been set
No timeline for the deconstruction has yet been set

After months of closely monitoring the five-story brick building at 213 Pearl Street, the city Department of Buildings (DOB) is now reviewing permits for its deconstruction. Once DOB has approved the permits, the building's owners will take it down.

The building was vacated in late summer 2007 as its brick façade became increasingly dilapidated. Bracing was installed to help support the building, and a sidewalk shed is in place outside both 211 and 213 Pearl Street.

As a result of the building's condition, construction projects on its north and south sides (at 217 and 201 Pearl Street) have been restricted or halted, as has the utility and Engineering Resurfacing work on Pearl. Moderate work on those projects has resumed and will return to full operations once the building is down. No timeline for the deconstruction has yet been set.
