70 Pine St. Converting 66 Stories to Residential

70 Pine Street conversion began in summer 2012
70 Pine Street conversion began in summer 2012

Interior demolition has begun at 70 Pine Street, the former AIG (American International Group) building located at the corner of Pearl Street. The 66-story tower will transform the landmarked skyscraper -- one of the tallest in Lower Manhattan -- from commercial to residential. Owner Rose Associates is leading the project, with the help of construction manager Sweet Construction.

Work began in mid-2012, and initial demolition is planned through spring 2013. Approximately 800 units will occupy 750,000 square feet in the building, with about 40,000 square feet of retail filling out lower floors of the Art Deco tower. Following demolition, build-out as luxury rental apartments will continue through approximately spring 2014.
