The 76 floor tower topped out in 2009

The gleaming silver tower known as 8 Spruce Street is in its final phase of construction, with façade completion and remaining hoist removal to be completed in early August 2011. Located between Spruce and Beekman, and just west of NYU Downtown Hospital, the tower’s western plaza is slated for late-2011 opening. The building’s new K-through-8 school also is on track to open this September, adding 630 school seats to the downtown community’s roster. The tower, which stands taller than any other downtown at 76 stories, was designed by architect Frank Gehry, and topped out in fall 2009. Final interior build-out is expected to wrap up in late summer 2012.
