The annual 9/11 commemoration services necessitate an area construction embargo
|
In preparation of the 11th anniversary of 9/11, the citys annual construction embargo will be in effect for five days. It begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 7th, and ends at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11th. The city Department of Transportation implements the embargo each year, suspending work on projects around the World Trade Center site for September 11th commemoration events. Only permitted emergency work may be performed during the embargo.
The affected locations include:
- Area bounded by Vesey Street on the north; Battery Place on the south; Broadway on the east; West Street on the west -- all inclusive
- State Street between Battery Place and Whitehall Street
Construction work will be permitted behind barriers within the embargoed areas until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 10th. Additionally on Monday, September 10th at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday, September 11th at 6 p.m., the embargo zone will be expanded, with the northern boundary extended to Chambers Street.
