BPC Community Center Build Out Begins

The facility will include a wide range of amenities
The facility will include a wide range of amenities

Construction of the new 60,000-square-foot Battery Park City (BPC) Community Center began this winter. Located between the new towers at BPC sites 23 and 24 on North End Avenue, the facility will bring welcome amenities to the largely residential neighborhood. Among its features will be both adult and children’s swimming pools, gym/fitness center, theater/auditorium, dance studios, classrooms, cafeteria, and offices. The center will also overlook the BPC ballfields on the east side of the block, between Murray and Warren Streets.

Like most new BPC construction, the Community Center is being built with green design and technology. Contractor Stalco Construction aims to achieve LEED Platinum certification for features that will help minimize energy use, maintain air quality, and reduce water waste. Completion is expected in late 2011.
