Reconstruction and painting work ramps up starting the first week of April
|
The four-year rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge mobilized in early 2010, and the city Department of Transportation’s contractor has staged much of its planning facilities and materials storage at the base of the Brooklyn tower, on New Dock Street. In Manhattan, storage also is occupying space under the bridge-approach arches -- on the south side of the on-ramp, in front of the Manhattan anchorage, and under the FDR Drive on South Street between Peck and Catherine Slip. To perform the work, crews have eliminated some on-street parking and paid-parking spaces.
Reconstruction and painting work ramps up starting the first week of April in the area between Pearl Street and Park Row, on the north side of the Manhattan approach. Part of that work includes protective-guard installation around trees, and a new concrete barrier around the staging areas.
Bus stops also have been relocated from Frankfort Street to Pearl Street; they include the M22, X13, X15, X18, X20, and X25. Bridge painting at Frankfort Street also requires a full street closure for four to six months later in 2010; more details will be posted as the work proceeds.
