Upon completion of the building's full abatement, deconstruction will begin
|
At the June 8th meeting of Community Board 1’s (CB1) World Trade Center committee, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) spokesman Michael Murphy gave a brief update on the progress at 130 Liberty Street.
The 26-story building is currently abated down to the third floor, and the façade is removed to the fifth floor. Murphy said that abatement should be conclude on floors three and floor this week, while the first floor and basement should be cleaned by about the end of June. The façade removal is expected to conclude by mid-July.
Those completion dates, however, may be affected by a smoke condition that occurred on June 9th. An LMDC email update reads: “There was a smoke condition created outside 130 Liberty Street where a piece of equipment was charging. The smoke was spotted by onsite personnel and the FDNY was immediately called. In course of the FDNY response it was determined that the cutoff switch for the negative air didn’t function properly therefore the job has been stopped until the cutoff switch is re-evaluated and repaired if necessary.”
Updates on the incident are expected soon, and a revised schedule will be posted.
Upon completion of the building’s full abatement, the estimated six-month-long building deconstruction will begin. The LMDC posted the final, approved deconstruction plan on its website on May 20, 2009. Contractor Bovis Lend Lease’s “Emergency Health and Safety Plan” also is posted. Air monitoring continues at 130 Liberty Street, with reports posted regularly here.
