Reconstruction work is underway between West Street and West Broadway
|
Reconstruction and water-main replacement on Chambers Street is now underway between West Street and West Broadway. Starting approximately Sunday, August 29th, the road will be reduced to one-way westbound traffic. The closure allows city crews to perform extensive infrastructure reconstruction in the roadbed. Other utilities also will be replaced, including electric, gas, steam, and sewer, as well curbs and sidewalks rebuilt.
The one-way westbound traffic revision will remain in place for approximately 18 months, though work will eventually shift to the block between West Broadway and Church Street. The eastbound M22 bus will be redirected to Warren Street. Regular traffic will be detoured to either Murray or Canal Street.
The project’s community liaison Marsha Sbordone is available to answer questions at (646) 380-5172 and chambersstccl@gmail.com, and brochures, signs, public meetings, and temporary utility-shutdown announcements are available to those who subscribe.
