The city's annual construction embargo is scheduled to begin on Friday, November 17^th, and end on Tuesday, January 2nd. The embargo takes place every year to help alleviate traffic congestion during the holiday shopping season. Lower Manhattan construction permits are voided during this period, unless projects have been issued special permits by the New York City Department of Transportation allowing them to continue.
