City Now Reconstructing Louise Nevelson Plaza

Grouting and slurry installation work is taking place
Grouting and slurry installation work is taking place

Under the Liberty Street project, the city Department of Design and Construction has already rebuilt several segments of Liberty, Maiden Lane, and Pearl Street. Now crews have turned their attention to the major reconstruction of Louise Nevelson Plaza. The triangular pedestrian plaza, located on William where Liberty and Maiden converge, has required special planning to accommodate Nevelson’s large sculptures (removed last year), along with extensive utility and New York City Transit–related coordination.

Grouting and slurry installation work is taking place within the Nevelson Plaza work zone for the next two months, followed by reconstruction that ties into the surrounding streets. The final segment of work -- on the plaza’s north side -- will take place this spring through approximately summer 2010. It includes excavation, utility upgrades, and sidewalk, curb and roadway reconstruction.
