Construction on New Conrad Hotel in BPC Continues

With the 43-story Goldman Sachs headquarters open now for nearly a year and a half, Battery Park City (BPC) is seeing some local additions and alterations. The most significant is the yearlong conversion of the Embassy Suites into the newest Conrad Hotel. Located at 102 North End Avenue (at Vesey Street), the hotel will add 463 luxury rooms to the downtown hotel roster, along with a 6,000-square-foot ballroom, 15-story atrium lobby, and a major art installation by Sol LeWitt.

In partnership with the new hotel, restaurateur Danny Meyer is also opening three new restaurants -- the first, Shake Shack, opened this spring at 215 Murray Street.

Interior construction on the Conrad New York is slated to continue through the end of 2011. Façade rehabilitation also has been ongoing around the building, including temporary crane use as permitted on Murray Street.

Meanwhile across Murray Street, work is nearly complete at 200 and 300 North End Avenue, also known as Liberty Luxe and Liberty Green. The two buildings, the former BPC Sites 23 and 24, earned their occupancy certificates earlier in 2011. Remaining construction includes community center and outdoor hardscape completion through the end of this year.
