Last week a worker finishes up work on Delury Square

Downtown’s newest shady respite is now open to the public at Fulton and Gold Streets. DeLury Square Park opened October 14th, with its official ribbon-cutting ceremony slated for November 18th. Under construction since early 2009, the $2.6 million park was created in conjunction with the city’s overall Fulton Street Corridor plan, with funding from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation.

The 8,800-square-foot park replaces the small traffic triangle of the same name that once separated three busy arterials at the same corner. The city Parks and Recreation Department worked with both the Departments of Transportation and Design and Construction to extend the northeast curb line at the intersection, acquiring a parcel of land from the adjacent Southbridge Towers. The new DeLury Square Park is now home to new benches, curved path, plantings, and a cascading waterfall.
