The demolition will continue into July 2011

A new, 24-story Pace University dormitory is planned for 180 Broadway, at the southeast corner of Broadway and John Street. With sidewalk sheds now in place around the work site, contractor Waldorf Demolition will begin deconstructing the three existing low-rise buildings through approximately July 2011. Excavation and foundation construction is expected to follow through October, when contractor Tishman Construction will proceed with superstructure erection.
Both Pace University officials and contractor Tishman Construction are committed to guidelines that will limit hours of noisy work, maintain an orderly work site, and ensure structural integrity of the surrounding buildings. The contractor also is coordinating its trucking and other activities with nearby construction projects, including the MTA’s Fulton Street Transit Center to the north, and 24 John Street to the east. Site access will require lane closures on Broadway (extending the east curb-lane closure outside the Fulton Transit site), with crews working standard weekday hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The new, $75 million dormitory will be the fourth for Pace in Lower Manhattan, and will replace one being leased in Brooklyn Heights. Under a long-term lease from commercial landlord SL Green Realty Corp., the tower is expected to open to students in early 2013, with three stories of retail planned for its lower floors.
