EPA to test and clean Lower Manhattan for final time
|
Through a new program run by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lower Manhattan residents and building owners can now register to have the air and dust in their units tested for contaminants associated with dust from the collapse of the World Trade Center. The program will cover all areas south of Canal and west of Pike and Allen Streets. Priority for testing will be based on a property's proximity to the World Trade Center site. If the EPA finds contaminant levels above established limits, the agency will clean your space at no charge.
The registration period is now underway and will run through March 30th. Eligible resident and building owners can call (888) 747-7725 to learn more. Live operators will be available 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Callers can also leave messages 24 hours a day.
