Officials from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) and City University of New York (CUNY) presented a brief update on Fiterman Hall deconstruction plans to Community Board 1 on June 14th. Led by DASNY Project Manager Richard Dalessio, the spokespersons explained that officials are now reviewing contractor bids for the decontamination and deconstruction of the 14-story tower.
In the meantime, Tishman Construction has been actively preparing the building for decontamination by sealing all openings, cleaning small areas necessary for building access, securing utilities, and testing fire stands and other safety equipment.
Dalessio said that DASNY/CUNY still anticipates the six-month decontamination of Fiterman Hall to begin in fall 2006, followed immediately by the six-month deconstruction. He added that once the work is underway, his agency will host regular public progress meetings, conduct safety and emissions testing, and publish status reports throughout the project.
