Fiterman Hall sidewalks are opening in time for building completion in Aug.
|
The new Fiterman Hall is on track to open next month, in time for the 2012 school year. The 15-story building has been under construction since early 2010, and now crews are completing its interior, moving in equipment and classroom furniture, and restoring the sidewalks that have been closed or covered by sheds for years.
The project's completion heralds the restoration of the public walkways around the building. This summer brought the reopening of rebuilt Greenwich and Barclay sidewalks and curbs, and West Broadway and Park Place sidewalks are expected to reopen in the next few weeks. The building is now undergoing final safety inspections that will restore Fiterman Hall to the City University of New Yorks BMCC campus.
The new building replaces the original 15-story Fiterman Hall, which was irreparably damaged on September 11, 2001. It is located at 245 Greenwich Street, between Park Place and Barclay Streets. Housing 400,000 total square feet, the new Fiterman also will house an art gallery and caf on its ground floor.
