Front Street Closure for Flood Recovery Work

Front Street is closed for flood-recovery work

A full traffic closure of Front Street is in effect between Beekman and Peck Slip through approximately late June 2013, allowing local property owners to rebuild and reinforce their substructures following Hurricane Sandy flooding in late October. The small street is located on the north side of the South Street Seaport, one of the areas hit hardest by the superstorm. Sidewalks remain open throughout the area, but vehicular traffic and parking are temporarily removed.

Several businesses along Front Street have reopened during the recovery work, though some are dependent on utility repairs and replacement. Front Street closures are being coordinated with the city Department of Transportation.

Nearby, city Department of Design and Construction crews continue their water-main and other utility reconstruction on Peck Slip and ancillary streets.
