Fulton Street Two-Way Traffic Restored

Two-way traffic will be restored from Water to Gold Street
Two-way traffic will be restored from Water to Gold Street

With thousands of visitors expected to flood Lower Manhattan for the anniversary of 9/11, the city is working to prepare local streets and sidewalks to handle the added traffic. Along Fulton Street, that means road reconstruction from Cliff to Water is winding down. Water main and other utility work in that area has been completed as part of the Fulton Phase 2 infrastructure work, and Department of Design and Construction crews have installed new benches, sidewalks and curbs on the north side of the street.

Additionally, the Parks Department ended their use of Fulton Street outside of its Pearl Street Playground work site, though crews are still actively rebuilding the triangular park.

This progress allowed the Department of Transportation to restore Fulton to two-way traffic from Water to Gold Street on August 12. Additional finishing work in the area will continue for several weeks. By mid-September, the DDC will begin its water-main replacement work in the South Street Seaport area, from South to Front Street.
