The sidewalk on Broadway between Fulton Street and John Street reopened
|
The Fulton Street Transit Center foundation work concluded in August, and the attention shifted to superstructure construction. The 42-month contract for the main building was awarded last week to the joint team of Plaza and Schiavone Construction, marking the start of the project’s largest remaining package -- running through January 2014.
One of the first major work-zone changes was shifting the project’s east-side occupied lanes to the west side of Broadway (from Fulton to John). That shift will allow crews to perform work on the substructures under the Broadway sidewalk. The east-side barricades will be pulled in to maintain two traffic lanes on Broadway.
Meanwhile, work is active in several other areas of the Transit Center complex. Sidewalk vault work is underway on Broadway between Dey and Cortlandt Street for several more weeks. Finishing work also is taking place in the pedestrian concourse under Dey Street, and at the entry house on Dey at Broadway. Inside the station, crews are rebuilding the A/C platform and mezzanine, including elevator installation outside 129 Fulton Street. And Corbin Building rehabilitation is in the early stages on John Street.
