Maikish inspects WTC Memorial site in March 2006

Charles Maikish stepped down as executive director of the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center (LMCCC) on Friday, July 20^th. Instrumental in helping draft the executive orders that led to the creation of the LMCCC, Maikish took the agency from concept to full functionality in his two years at the helm. Under his leadership, the Enforcement Task Force was put in place to coordinate all the city and state agencies involved in the rebuilding and address traffic and quality of life issues in Lower Manhattan.  

"The Command Center is now fully staffed and operational and is fulfilling its mission: to facilitate the construction of 60 projects below Canal Street, mitigate the impact on residents and businesses, and communicate to the public," Maikish said in announcing his departure. "I am confident that the agency can meet the daunting task of maintaining the viability of the area for residents and businesses while this massive reconstruction is going on," he continued.

Speaking at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) board meeting on July 18^th, LMDC Chairman Avi Schick praised Maikish for his leadership and accomplishments as executive director of the Command Center.

Maikish plans to take the rest of the summer off and weigh several options.
