Steel erection at the Fulton Street Transit Center is in its final weeks, and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) crews are now preparing for a new section of work on the A/C mezzanine. To accommodate the rebuilding, on October 29th subway riders transferring from the 4/5 trains to the other six subway lines will use a temporary passageway.
In addition, the subway entrance at 222 Broadway, located beside the Chase Bank on Fulton Street, also will be permanently closed on October 29th at 6 p.m. As an alternative, a temporary entrance will open on the corner of Broadway just south of Fulton Street.

Reconstruction of the A/C mezzanine has been ongoing for more than two years now, with crews working in phases to maintain active subway operations. Using temporary stairways, access between platform and mezzanine is being improved, including the addition of an escalator that should be functional in early 2012. The opening of the new 135 William Street entrance in August also improved access to the Fulton station’s east end. The entire rebuilt A/C mezzanine is slated for March 2013 completion.

Transit Center building nearly complete and the massive spiral staircase now installed, the glass curtain wall and oculus cladding will begin going up in early 2012. Already the glass roof of the new Dey Street entry house is in place, and the structure, located at Dey and Broadway, will open in July 2012 -- along with the new Dey Street Concourse linking the Transit Center to the N/R Cortlandt Street station.
Coming up in November, MTA crews will remove the tower crane at the main building site. That operation is currently slated for the weekend of November 11th, and will require a full closure of Broadway from Fulton to John from Saturday at 5 a.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m.
Renovation of the Corbin Building also is proceeding both inside and on the exterior. MTA crews are coordinating Transit Center utility work on John Street with 180 Broadway and 24 John Street, both located across the street from the Corbin.
The Fulton Street Transit Center main building will remain under construction through June 2014, when it will open with retail on its ground level and third floors, and dining destinations on its second floor.
