MTA crews will soon begin installing a new elevator outside 129 Fulton Street
|
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) crews are building a new, large Fulton Street Transit Center entrance at 135 William Street -- to serve as an ADA-compliant entry point on the far east side of the Transit Center. The new entry will convert the building’s ground-level space into a rider-access point with stairs, escalators, and elevator from street to mezzanine, which will connect to the mezzanine-to-2/3 platform elevator.
To accommodate the MTA entrance construction, Con Edison is now relocating its steam main on William Street just south of Fulton. When that work is complete approximately mid-November, MTA crews will reduce the work zone and continue 135 William entrance construction through July 2011 -- though the elevator is slated to open by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, MTA crews will soon begin installing a new elevator outside 129 Fulton Street, for ADA access to the two J/Z “stacked” platforms. It is expected to be operational in early 2012. That work is active next door to 127 Fulton Street, where the façade is being rebuilt as part of the city’s Fulton Corridor beautification program.
A third new entry point to the Transit Center also will be built at 150 William Street, on the north side of Fulton, currently slated to open in late 2011.
