N, Q, R Subway Weeknight Service Suspensions

Fastrack is headed to the Broadway (N, Q, R) subway April 15-19
Fastrack is headed to the Broadway (N, Q, R) subway April 15-19

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's "Fastrack" program is in effect on the N, Q, R subway line in April. Overnight subway outages will take place nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., from the night of Monday, April 15th through early morning on Friday, April 19th. N trains will operate in Queens and Brooklyn only. Q trains run in Brooklyn and are rerouted via the D Sixth Avenue line in Manhattan to/from the 57th Street F station. R service ends early in Manhattan and Queens.

See full details here.

Riders can use these transit alternatives:

  • Enter nearby stations in Manhattan during Fastrack hours.
  • Transfer between routes at major stations: Fifth Avenue/42nd Street-Bryant Park (7, D, F, Q), 34th Street-Herald Square (B, D, F), Jay Street-MetroTech (A, F, N), and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center (2, 4, D, N, Q). Queensboro Plaza (7, N),
  • Take the 7 train between Queens and Manhattan.

Fastrack was introduced in January 2012, devoting four straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service on a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This allows maintenance crews to perform dozens of tasks more safely by not working on live track, and without repeated pausing for trains to pass.

NYCT workers will inspect track, repair or replace rails, and perform power and signal maintenance. Additional repairs to platform edges, wall tiles and lighting will be made, as well as power washing at some of the closed stations. In four nights, MTA crews can accomplish what may take two months to complete during train-operating hours.

Most of the 2013 Fastrack outages will only affect the outer boroughs and upper Manhattan.
