WTCMF to receive share of movie's profit
|
Oliver Stone's movie, World Trade Center, had a successful opening weekend, bringing in more than $26 million. This is good news for Paramount Studios and great news for four local charities who will receive ten percent of the movie's profit from the first five days. The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation will receive half of the total donation, or $1.3 million, and the other $1.3 million will be divided between Tuesday's Children, the Tribute WTC Visitor Center, and the New York Police and Fire Widow's and Children's Benefit Fund.
Joseph Daniels, acting president of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, said, "The story of Port Authority Police Officers Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin are among the countless stories of heroism and compassion in response to the events of September 11th. This donation will help ensure that these acts of bravery and kindness are known by future generations through the World Trade Center Memorial and Museum. We are deeply grateful for the donation from Paramount."
The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation will put the money toward the construction of the memorial, which began on Tuesday, August 15th. To date, the foundation had raised $132.3 million toward its $500 million goal. In July, the foundation launched a national fundraising campaign to help raise the remaining $167.7 million needed to complete the project.
