FDR Drive Repainting Extends Northward

Much of the Phase I East River Waterfront work will be complete by the fall
Much of the Phase I East River Waterfront work will be complete by the fall

With the pilot section nearly complete, city crews are now starting to repaint remaining sections of the FDR Drive overpass, between Old Slip and Pier 35 (near Rutgers Slip). Part of the Economic Development Corporation’s East River esplanade project, the repainting first involves sandblasting on weekdays from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is performed within fully enclosed tented areas under the overpass, concentrated on the FDR’s waterside girders. The project began in early January 2010 near Wall Street -- with crews repainting with the new color “almost purple” -- and should wrap up around early June 2010.

The full esplanade project continues to progress in multiple segments at once. Pile work for Piers 13, 14 and 15 was completed last fall, and crews now at work rebuilding piers, completing infrastructure, and beginning uplands reconstruction. Much of the Phase I East River Waterfront work will be complete by fall 2010, with a second phase to follow with a new schedule.
