Vehicular access will be limited to one lane
|
As part of its plan to improve and update downtown's infrastructure, the city Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is launching the capital reconstruction of Beekman Street and Park Place in late October 2007. The first phase of work begins on Beekman Street between William and Gold Streets, where crews will excavate, install new utilities, and temporarily restore the roadway adjacent to New York Downtown Hospital through the end of 2007. Traffic access will be limited to one lane during the first phase of the Beekman Street portion of the project; pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Across City Hall Park, crews will begin the reconstruction of Park Place from West Broadway to Broadway in November 2007. Crews will start at the west end and work eastward, installing new sewer mains; replacing old utilities and conduits; and rebuilding the curbs, sidewalks, and roadway. The work is expected to continue for approximately one year, through fall 2008.
Reconstruction of Beekman Street between Park Row and William Street is planned for fall 2008 and will continue for one year.
The city will post signs for traffic changes and road/lane closures as they occur. More information about the project is available here.
