Rector Street Bridge Reopens October 9th

Workers prepare for reopening of bridge in Oct. 2009
Workers prepare for reopening of bridge in Oct. 2009

The Rector Street Pedestrian Bridge across West Street is scheduled to reopen today, after several weeks of repair work. The state Department of Transportation (SDOT) led the bridge rehabilitation project, in cooperation with the Battery Park City Authority, as part of the Promenade South 2 project. Since July, crews have made the bridge’s steps less steep, modified the railings and improved lighting, as well as performed maintenance on the western ramp and tube paving. Pedestrians are now able to use the bridge to cross above West Street traffic.

Meanwhile, this weekend SDOT begins utility work that will dead-end the Rector Street roadway east of West Street for approximately six weeks.
