Need-based scholarships for kids, teens, and parents living downtown are now available for several summer programs at Pace University, including youth theater and art workshops and parenting classes for adults. Thanks to grants from Pace's Center for Downtown New York and the university president's office, as many as 50 full scholarships will be awarded.
Among the scholarship-supported programs are two music theater sessions for kids ages 8 to 14 run by TADA! Youth Theater. No music-theater background is required, and each week-long experimental workshop will conclude with a performance at Pace's Schimmel Center for the Arts, home of Tony Randall's National Actors Theater. The public is invited to both performances, to be held on Friday, July 11, and Friday, July 18, at 7 p.m.
Other courses and workshops include a family animation "snack workshop" designed to provide a taste of what creating animations entails (for families with children over 8), a creative arts workshop (for kids 8 to 14), a playwriting workshop (for kids 8 to 14), an improvisation workshop (for ages 16 to adult), and skills workshops for parenting in the 21st century (for adults).
