Water Street Closure for Water Main Work

The Water Street segment begins Monday, January 30
The Water Street segment begins Monday, January 30

Starting Monday, January 30th, city Department of Design and Construction crews will begin capital reconstruction of Water Street, between Beekman Street and Peck Slip. Water Street will be closed to traffic and parking will be removed for installation of the new water main and other utilities. Pedestrian traffic and access to local businesses will be maintained at all times. The work will take place in phases -- first the south half, then the north half -- through late 2012. Upon completion, the street will be rebuilt with new curbs and sidewalks, and the cobblestone roadway restored.

The project is part of the city’s Peck Slip Reconstruction project, which is also now active on Peck Slip and Beekman Street, with additional work planned for Front Street in 2014.
