West Broadway at Chambers Traffic Reconfigured

The elevator-installation project is expected to conclude in late 2008
The elevator-installation project is expected to conclude in late 2008

Installation of new ADA-compliant elevators continues at the 1/2/3 Chambers Street subway station, located at Chambers and West Broadway/Hudson Street. By mid-February 2008, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) crews will reconfigure the MPT plan to close the east curb lane of West Broadway and north curb lane of Chambers (outside Starbucks), where they will create temporary pedestrian walkways.

They will then close the northeast station entrance to rebuild the stairway. In March 2008, crews will shift work to the northwest corner of the Chambers and Hudson intersection to begin installing the street-to-mezzanine elevator. The entire elevator-installation project is expected to conclude in late 2008.

The MTA has coordinated the project with developers of 85 West Broadway, who are working at the intersection's southeast corner, as well as with the city Department of Transportation.
