The lane shifts will continue for appx. six months
|
West Street’s final roadway repaving started in early June 2009 between Liberty and Chambers Streets. To accommodate the work, the state Department of Transportation (SDOT) is shifting all traffic lanes eastward for approximately six months, through October. The three northbound lanes were shifted on May 30th; southbound lanes will shift to the east on Saturday, June 6th.
To implement the southbound lane realignment, this weekend there will be several lane closures on West Street from Chambers to Liberty.
- Friday, June 5th: 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. -- one of three lanes will be closed.
- Saturday, June 6th: 12:01 a.m. to 11 a.m. -- two of three lanes will be closed.
- Saturday, June 6th: 11:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday -- one of three lanes will be closed.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during these closures.
For the full six-month project duration, three travel lanes will be maintained in both directions, with traffic-enforcement agents and signs posted to redirect motorists. Questions can be addressed to SDOT’s Promenade South Community Liaison Vivian Wu at telephone at 800-714-0454 or at route9a@dot.state.ny.us.
