West Thames Park Renovation Starts This Week

West Thames Park, summer 2009
West Thames Park, summer 2009

The renovation of West Thames Park in Battery Park City is set to begin Tuesday, October 13th. State Department of Transportation crews will fully close the park segment between West Thames and Albany Street in order to reopen it by summer 2010. The closed area includes the playground, lawn, and community garden space. The dog run to the south will remain partially open throughout the construction.

Along with new play structures, expanded garden space, and other landscaping, the park renovations include updating underground utilities, installing a new walkway and bikeway, and tying the park in to Promenade South Segment 2. Crews will work daily from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with weekend and night hours as necessary to meet the Memorial Day 2010 slated completion date.

Questions about the project can be addressed to Community Outreach Liaison Vivian Wu at 1-800-714-0454 or by e-mail at route9a@dot.state.ny.us.
