World Financial Center Renovation Work Begins

World Financial Center renovations began in November 2011
World Financial Center renovations began in November 2011

This month, Brookfield Properties begins the first phase of its $250 million World Financial Center (WFC) renovation. Construction begins Monday, November 7th on the southwest corridors of the ground and mezzanine levels, resulting in closures of several stores and restaurants, as well as some relocations. The corridors will remain closed for the duration of the construction period, through 2013. WFC tower lobbies and other areas will remain accessible.

The second phase of work will begin in spring 2012, remodeling the Winter Garden and other retail areas through approximately 2014. The Winter Garden work will tie into the new glass-clad pavilion on West Street, linking the WFC to Lower Manhattans new World Trade Center transit hub through an underground concourse. The WFC overhaul includes a retail expansion, adding high-end fashion, a 25,000-square-foot European-style gourmet marketplace, and more waterfront dining.

Ongoing project details can be found here.
